Abstract -

The paper describes the author's professional and personal experiences as the first visiting faculty at the National Weather Center REU Program, including a brief rationale for undergraduate research, historical background of the research experience, descriptions of some of the projects in which he was involved, and a summary of four of the conferences he attended.
